Karel Appel (born in 1921) was one of the founders of the Cobra movement, an international group of artists who were very much occupied with experimental art in the late forties and early fifties. Appelís style is wild and colourful. In addition to producing paintings, graphic arts and sculptures, he is also involved in designing ballets and operas.
